I've always been connected to a power greater than that found in myself alone.

In the beginning it wasn't about choice or a need for a comprehensive understanding of my connection. It was simple, life as it was given to me to live, full of excitement and learning.

At age 11 I was permitted full Surat Shabda Yoga initiation into sound and light by Sant Ajaib Singh Ji. As I grew older with this knowledge many spiritual questions arose. I began seeking answers not only within my yoga practice, but any spiritual and religious practice that spoke to me of deep spirituality.

As I matured it became clear I was empathetic. I could "feel" what others felt and give voice to inner conflicts when they could find none for themselves. Often the words I spoke were new ideas for me as well. That voice, though fueled by my desire to assist others was then, and is still, guided by my spiritual connection to that which is greater than myself.

It's clear spirituality is fundamental to our development as human beings and our understanding of human nature. While many find deep reward in following a specific disciplined spiritual practice, everyone need not define God or adhere to a specific religion or practice to reap the benefits of spirituality.
